Which Club Should I Enter Competitions As?
This can be as simple as ABC, or as complex as you make it.
If you only fence at one club, enter under that club's name.
However, many advanced fencers train at more than one club, and the choice of which to put on the entry form can be difficult. Some fencers may have started at Club A, and moved on to Club B at some point, but still feel a loyalty to the original coach.
As a rule of thumb - pick a club at the start of the season (Sept) and stick to it. This makes life easier for the points co-ordinators, and lessens the chance that you will appear in the ranking lists twice, once as J Smith, First Sword, and again as John Smith, Salle Seconde. (With your ranking points divided).
If you change clubs, explain to the head coach at your original club that you would like to continue to represent them until the season ends. Have a similar conversation with your new coach, with the assurance that you would like to represent the new club next season. Hopefully, this way you can stay on good terms with both organisations. Clubs and coaches should not put pressure on individual fencers to represent any given club.
If you fence at two (or more) clubs, then eventually you have to decide where your loyalties lie. It makes sense to represent the club where you train most often, or where the coach offers most support, but don't change club allegiance too easily - coaches have long memories!
