“Tomorrow’s Achievers” is the name of England Fencing’s youth development section.
Training sessions cover all aspects of fencing, including warm-up, fitness, footwork, and bladework. A number of other courses on related subjects of interest to parents and coaches are run at the same venue, and at the same time.
Any Fencer between the ages of 10 and 17 can attend one Foil or Epee evaluation session. However, these are not beginner’s courses, and the fencers who will benefit most are those who have been fencing for a year or two, and have competed successfully in a number of competitions. After a period of evaluation TA coaching staff may suggest other avenues to explore to gain more experience before returning to the TAs. Sabre sessions are by invitation only. Parents and coaches are welcome to stay to watch.
The TA coaches vary from session to session, but are drawn from some of the most successful coaches in the country. Experts from outside the sport may be brought in for specific topics. All coaching staff are registered with British Fencing, and are fully CRB checked.
Most clubs are not fortunate enough to have the strength in depth that a national training session can provide. By bringing together many of the best young fencers in the country, the TAs offer a unique opportunity to train with your peer group. TA training is designed to complement club training, not to replace it.
TA’s also run trips to suitable foreign competitions for selected competitive fencers to gain international exposure and experience.
Sessions currently cost £20 for members of England Fencing or £30 for members of other home countries. This covers a 5 hour day (10:00 am – 3:30pm, less lunchtime).
